its that time of year. its 4pm. its getting dark, and is 29 degrees outside.
my knee i injured 2 WEEKS BACK! seems to be only getting worse, so its off to the doctor, with figured crossed. this injury has held me from really digging into skating the new Etnies Barge sneakers. witch i wanted to write about.. you know.. by now. not gonna happen as i can barely walk.
i had just started into a set of autobahn dual core wheels. that i was gonna compare to spitfires new clear cut, dual core wheels.
also we were gonna shoot a short promo for open. but, i cant push on a board. so, its not getting done untill the knee gets sorta also. its sorta amazing how all my plans rotated around the idea of my skating. luckly i’ll be taking an extended vacation in VA. it will still be cold. but not this cold.. hopefully. witch will probably be good for my knee.
when i get back. i’ll add the new OPEN shirts to the website, if you wanna buy one. it would really help us out. oh, and you get a fresh shirt. we think.
so happy all this time of year stuff.
there are a lot of part in a skateboard, that a lot of people don’t talk about. mainly hardware. there is a product i love endlessly, that no one talks about. what are they?
Dooks shock pads. you find them under the riser pad section. but they are not riser pads. they are soft. so once you bolt down properly. these guys may.. MAY add a 16th of an inch.
what do they. once i started using them. i don’t get vertical stress cracks anymore. witch has lead to longer board life, and longer pop life.
there is no other option, so i can’t compare dooks to anything else. they smoosh under my truck. i don’t notice them. and stress cracks around my trucks are gone.
well crap. i was trying to work on a bunch of product review. like some satori wheels. some autobahn dual core wheels. some vans AV3s, and Etnies Barge (shoes).. and some bearings.
but i am once again injured, and have been limping for a week straight. plus! it’s below freezing here in NYC. so.. yeah. my skating is sorta on hold for sure. in the mean time, OPEN is planning, and getting ready to shoot some promos. those will hopefully come post the holidays. along with some welcome ad’s and videos to some of the first people on the OPEN team. we got Tshirts being made, and new designs getting ready for spring. i know there is still lots of winter left. but lets be realistic. you can skate in the winter on the east coast.. sometimes. its not an everyday thing. your boards, and shoes all of a sudden start lasting a bit longer over the winter months. or i’m a wuss.
here’s a graphic of the tshirt btw. once all the homies have theirs. i’ll put the remaining ones up for sale via HB and OPEN.
well here it is. i’m finally in a place where i can start selling OPEN boards. currently they are only available online, and to people in the USA. i wish that wasn’t the case. but international shipping it death.
you can head on over to the OPEN sk website to check it out.
beyond that, we are working on some welcome ads, and videos, for people to be announced later. we’re excited.
BTW. the decks are made by our friends at Pennswood. pressed, and screen printing in Pennsylvania. some of the best wood i have skated. no gimmicks. just quality IMO.
so finally, the 2nd OPEN deck is done. it’s not the one we promised. and we can’t be sorry enough to everyone about that. but it’s one of those things you can’t undo. pennswood send me a couple decks to check out here in PDX. can i withhold from hooking one up? even though i am on a ian board that is more then good still? only time will tell.
when i get back to NY. ill be hitting up shops, some distro’s, and will get an online store up.
i’m a pretty banged up person. who isn’t who skateboards. i went to the dept. of skateboarding in PDX this evening. its mostly wood.. with graniet ledges. the few. and some serious steps. like the big three. being someone who only started skating again in nyc, last winter. skateparks are something i have never known. its weird. i don’t get the flow. it seems to be best suited for people who spend the most time there. verse just general skating. if your use to that wedge to gap, your use to it. i had to take my stacks. (witch are getting painfull cause i keep falling on the same knee, and lets not even talk about my foot!) and i feel dumb and stupid.
the feeling in the park is its less dangerous and safer. and you can rip all the time. when a park is totally new. this is not the case. atleast for me. i went in with confiendence, and by the end was well shook up. because of my bad foot. i couldn’t trust my pop. witch only lead to slams. witch only lead to less trust in my pop. and etc. on it goes. im not saying parks are bad. but right now. they are not as relaxing as a solid street spot. but i’ll be back. and i’ll win.
by the way. the guys at cal’s pharmacy are great. what an awesome small shop.
i’ve lived in the same place for so long. being someplace new with no tour guide is more alien then all my times i’ve flown in to japan. i dont get the NW culture, and people can just tell im from out of town. and, im lost, all the time.
i went to cal’s pharmacy, witch i guess is different then cal’s skate shop.
but cal’s pharm, and the dept. of skateboarding is really close to where i am staying. so i am sure i will be there a lot.
portland, in just 2 days of biking, seems like spots for miles. from gnarly, to just small manny pads. i am sure people would say the same about nyc. probably something in knowing the area, and how people react.
i hate being in a new place. but once i get my bearings i love it. so here’s to hope. oh, and maybe i can score some tribute rain drop 53s. ha.
i’ve been stretching, trying to get the muscle back in my foot. i am off to PDX for a couple weeks. portland as they call it. i don’t know anyone who skates out there. so, if your in portland, and are cool skating with an oldish, injured visitor. gimme a shout! otherwise im just gonna be trying to hit all the spots. or atleast parks. old man night at the dept. of sk.. here i come!
i’ve been watching lots of skate videos recently. cause i can’t really skate. this whole broken foot thing. but well watching all the latest and greatest. its been pretty much eh. i don’t want to go risk my foot rebreaking. i get how hard it is to switch everything. i can’t switch shit. cause i’m regular footed. not both footed. and just doing things regular is fine by me. when i don’t know your footing stance (witch is hard to tell when theres an edit every 10 or so seconds).. switch, or normal. i can’t tell, and. don’t really care anymore. if your switch looks so good, i can’t tell. you might as well be that footed.. so, it nulls the whole point. it does not look like fun. doesn’t make me want to skate.
if you like doing switch tricks. more power to ya. i’m all for the things you like to do. but if you do everything switch. well. you might as well be that footed.. get what im saying? anyways. after being mostly 100% bummed out from skate videos for the past 4 or so months. heres a clip i like. and wouldn’t you know it. its the gonz… having FUN.. cough.. FUN!!!!!!!! skateboarding.
this makes me want to skate. past the pain it currently causes me well trying to rehab.
not me. you think i would just sitting for 6 weeks. but i don’t work like that. anyways. no, whats getting fat are our skateboards! and its not subtle. even i put on some .10th of an inch.
i don’t know a single person who hasn’t gone up a size in skateboards decks. when i started the year, it seemed like most people i knew skated on 7.6″ wide skateboard decks. 7.6s were pluntifull and we were all happy. now. not even a year later. most companies are only releasing maybe one 7.6 model, and many 8 + inch decks. and people seem to be loving it. what happened? feb.. 7.6s and skinny low trucks. now. 8″ and wide hi trucks. skate videos don’t seem to be any different, though most videos have been shot over the last couple years. not this summer. so whats happened? why is this happening? i know i was more “comfortable” moving up to the 7.75″. and i get that from other people on the 8″. but, i don’t really know. why did you change deck size. and don’t be telling me. “oh, i always have ridden 8″s”..
